What is a MacGuffin?
The origin of the term MacGuffin dates back to early Hollywood and has become a mainstay of cinema. First popularized by Alfred Hitchcock, its reach has grown to be a popular tool used throughout film and television to craft compelling stories audiences connect to and remember long past the show's ending.
A MacGuffin is any object in narrative storytelling that compels the main characters on their journey. Often the treasure at the end of an epic quest or great adventure, the MacGuffin is a powerful tool around which filmmakers craft their stories. As a result, MacGuffin's have become iconic props in their own right.
Naturally, in crafting the inaugural awards events to celebrate iconic achievements in props, naming the trophy The MacGuffin was the only choice.
